Welcome to the Villa Marie Council, 6342, of the Knights of Columbus, located at the Church of the Assumption. The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic gentlemen who provide service to the church and community.
The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic gentlemen who provide service to the church and community. The Knights offer mutual aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities
The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 12,000 councils and 1.6 million members throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines 7 Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Guam and Saipan. The Knights of Columbus
Improving the World — One Community at a Time
The Knights of Columbus is the largest Catholic family fraternal service in the world. Last year, its 1.6 million members donated $128 million and 60 million volunteer hours to help make our Church and our community stronger. Knights strive to be better men, better husbands, fathers and sons, better citizens, better neighbors, and better leaders.
In the immediate aftermath of 9/11/01, the Knights of Columbus established its $1 million Heroes Fund to provide immediate cash assistance of $3,000 to each widow or surviving family member of the more than 400 police officers, firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians killed in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center. This was done regardless of\vhether the deceased was a member of the Knights or even a Catholic. The first checks were delivered on September 13th, 2001, just two days after the tragedy.
The Knights of Columbus also provide a range of college scholarships. This past year. students received a total of$ 1.15 million in scholarship aid. This does not include scholarships for seminarians and men and women in religious formation programs. The Knights also have a top-rated insurance program (earned Standard & Poor’s AAA rating for the13th year in a row). Here at Assumption and Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton the Knights:
---held fund raisers for the mentally challenged and the Field of Dreams.
---provided scholarships for eighth graders going on to Catholic High School
---supplied play ground equipment for the school ---held the annual Spelling Bee and free throw contests for our students
---donated to the College Campus Ministry Church building fund (Nauman) at Stockton
---held fund raisers for Right to Life, including the sale of Roses for Life and the New Jersey Right to Life (NJRTL) Volvo raffle.
The proceeds from these programs help pay for the buses going to Washington on the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, while also helping Crisis Pregnancy and other pro life activities.
---present roses to new mothers at children’s baptism every month.
---support our pastor and any requests he may have. Most importantly, the Knights stand in support of the Church and each other as Catholic gentlemen; encouraging one another to a deeper faith.
Business & Social meetings start at 7:30PM on the first Tuesday of every month.
Our Social meeting is the third Tuesday of the month.
Our business meeting will be Tuesday May 1, 2007 at 7:30PM at the upper hall at Assumption Regional School.
