Altar Servers

This Ministry is a most appropriate way for young people to serve their parish community and strengthen their commitment to their faith. Altar Servers assist the clergy in their role of leading liturgical gatherings.

Boys and girls may participate as altar servers if they are:

• Parishioners of Assumption Church

• Between the ages of 9 and 18 years of age

• Attend one of the local Catholic Schools or the parish Religious Education Program

• Able to complete the required training as scheduled

• Able to participate in Mass and other liturgies as scheduled, including Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, Weddings and Funerals.

Please contact the rectory for further details.

schedule for : January - March

Art and Environment

The Arts and Environment Committee creates an atmosphere that enhances the worshipping assembly’s celebration of their faith through the visual beauty of the Church environment. This environment also heightens an awareness of the festive, solemn, or penitential nature of the various liturgical seasons.

The Committee members meet seasonally to plan the environment, set decorating times, gather resources and create materials. These meetings are usually held in the evening. The Church decorating usually occurs during the daytime.

Maintenance is also an important part of this committee’s work. Flowers and plants need to be watered, rearranged, or replaced frequently.

The Arts and Environment Committee(Church Environment Ministry) is always looking for new members to share their ideas, talents and time in making “something beautiful for God.”

Children's Liturgy of the Word

Children, ages 4 –10, are invited to hear the Readings and Gospel in an age-appropriate manner as part of 9am mass during the school year.

The children are escorted to a classroom by adult ministers. Here they will also hear a Homily which is interactive and usually includes a question and answer period and a game or activity. Parents are encouraged to volunteer their assistance and join in the fun.

Extraordinary Ministers

In the Body of Christ, there are a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather as a community to worship God. Among these ministries is the Eucharistic Minister, who brings the Body of Christ to the faithful.

By virtue of our Baptism in Christ, some are called to serve as ministers of the liturgical assembly. The Parish of Assumption has been blessed with many members who have answered this call, people who are dedicated to the Church’s mission of service. These dedicated members of our Church bring the Body of Christ to God’s people who are homebound, hospitalized or in nursing homes.

schedule for: January - March

Lectors

In the Body of Christ, there are a wonderful variety of ministries, which are especially evident when we gather as a community to worship God. Among these ministries is the Lector, who proclaims the Word of God to the church assembly.

By virtue of our Baptism in Christ, some are called to serve as ministers of the liturgical assembly. The Parish of Assumption has been blessed with many members who have answered this call, people who are dedicated to the Church’s mission of service. These dedicated members of our Church proclaim the Word of God at the Sunday Celebrations, Paraliturgies, and on Special ocassions.

To participate, you must be 14 years of age, fully initiated into the Church, not under any type of canonical restriction, registered in the Parish and be an active participant in the sacramental life of the Church.

schedule for: January - March | Today's Readings

Music Ministry

The Church of the Assumption’s Music Ministry is open to all parishioners who are called to serve God’s people with their musical talents and gifts.  We believe deeply that each member of our parish community is called by God to join in full, active and conscious participation in worship as we join in thanksgiving and praise through psalms, hymns and sung prayers.  Each and every member of our parish community is truly a Music Minister.

The Adult Choir season begins in the fall and ends on the Feast of Corpus Christi (early summer).  We serve at the 10:30 a.m. Mass weekly and at special Feasts and Celebrations throughout the Liturgical year.  Practices are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the Church.   Our choir always greets new members with great enthusiasm.  You are invited to come to a practice unannounced to try us out.

For anyone with the special gifts of a strong voice, and a sure presence, we are always looking for talented Leaders of Song (Cantors) to assist the assembly in praise and worship.  Junior Cantors (ages 11 – 18) will be scheduled to sing once or twice each month at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, and are asked to commit to two practices a month.

Additional instrumentation adds to the beauty of our celebrations.  Consider sharing your talents if you play the piano, organ, flute, guitar, trumpet, violin, percussion, etc.

If you are being called to serve in any of these capacities, please contact our Music Director.  The Assumption Music Ministry welcomes you!

Ushers Ministry

Members of this ministry help provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere at parish liturgies and functions, particularly weekend Masses and assistance to those in attendance.

The Ushers greet people as they enter the building, assist them in finding a seat (if necessary) and direct them to needed facilities (sacristy, restroom, etc.)

The Ushers are responsible for taking up the collection of offerings, and assisi members of the congregation in bringing the offerings to the sanctuary.

The Ushers direct the congregation in approaching the altar for Holy Communion, with particular attention to persons with disabilities.

At the end of Mass, the ushers acknowledge people as they leave, while offering a copy of the weekly parish bulletin and/or other literature.
