Jesus, the Good Shepherd
The title of Christ, which he gave himself, in so many words and in the Parable of the Good Shepherd (John 10:17-18; Luke 15:3-7). The theme is then taken up later in the New Testament (Hebrews 13:20; I Peter 2:25, 5:4). Implicit in the title is God's mercy on sinners and his concern for the weak and lowly. Already in the catacombs the Savior was often represented as the Good Shepherd.
Veronica's Veil
The cloth which tradition holds that the saintly Veronica wiped the face of Jesus on his way to Calvary. Christ is said to have left the imprint of his face on the veil. It is honored as a trasured relic at St. Peter's in Rome. The episode is commeroated in the sixth station of the cross. Veronica is sometimes identified with the woman whom Chrsit healed of an issue of blood. (Mark 5:25-32).
Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary
The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are mentioned explicitly only briefly in the text of the New Testament. Nevertheless the many references to the love and compassion of Jesus and Mary, as well as implied references to their Hearts, provide a vivid revelation of the Two Hearts. It is remarkable that the few explicit references all bear upon the work of redemption. | more
