Saint Vincent dePaul
(Church of Assumption Conference)
Mission Statement
Inspired by the Gospel Values, the Society of St. Vincent dePaul leads women and men to work together and grow spiritually by offering tangible and Spiritual support through prayer and person-to-person contacts to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and patron St. Vincent dePaul.
What is the Saint Vincent dePaul Society?
The Society of St. Vincent dePaul is an international organization of Catholic lay men and women. It was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam in Paris, France. The Society’s structure was shaped by its founder, (Frederic Ozanam) and guided by the patronage of St Vincent dePaul. (Father of the Poor & Apostle of Charity)
The first organizational unit called a “Conference” was established in the United States at the Old Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri on November, 1845. Today in the United States; there are over 4500 conferences (nearly 1 in every 5 parishes) totaling more than 108,000 members.(Church of the Assumption conference was formed July 7, 2004) The members are called Vincentians after their patron St.Vincent dePaul. Worldwide there are over 500,000 members located in 132 countries.
An essential precept of the Vincentian work is to provide help while scrupulously maintaining the privacy and the dignity of those that we serve.
We are always looking for new Adult members (Young and Old)
We are our brothers and sisters’ keepers, wherever they live. Learning to practice the virtues of solidarity means learning that “Loving our neighbor” has global dimensions in an interdependent world. People have a right and a duty to participate in society, seeking together the common good and well-being of all, especially the poor and vulnerable.
Every person has a ftmdamental right to life and a right to those things required for human decency. Corresponding to these rights the duties and responsibilities to one another, to our families and to society. We are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation.
This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions that cannot be ignored.
